Artist Statement: 

This series is a self-guided reflection on memory's inconsistencies and how age influences one's focus. Having lived a nomadic life, Schmitt draws on her memories to create artworks that act as personal memory capsules particular to the countries that she lived in. The repetitive patterns ground the viewer while exploring known and unknown symbols and characters. These meditative works exist in a delicate feminine space to reflect on the coming of age.
